A Purpose-Driven Calling
Jasmine Houston isn’t just a fashion designer—she’s a creative force fueled by purpose, precision, and prayer. Founder of The Jasmine Houston Collection, Jasmine designs stylish, functional garments for adults with dwarfism, creating what the industry has long ignored: clothing that fits, flatters, and affirms. Her brand is more than a label—it’s a revolution born of faith and fashioned with intention.
The seeds of this journey were planted during her freshman year at North Carolina A&T, where Jasmine was studying Fashion Merchandising and Design. Sitting quietly on a bench, she received what she describes as a divine download: “God told me to design for people with dwarfism.” That moment became her mission. It also became the foundation for a career that would challenge and change the fashion world.

Building from the Ground Up
Jasmine officially launched her brand in October 2021. With little guidance available for designing clothes for people with dwarfism, she had to create her own framework—sizing, fit, construction, and fabrication—all from scratch. Manufacturers couldn’t support her needs. Industry mentors didn’t exist for her niche. So she taught herself how to produce everything.
“There weren’t blueprints for this,” she says. “It was a lot of trial and error. Honestly, it was divine. God walked me through it.”
Her process became part experimentation, part intuition, and all heart. She collaborated with members of the dwarfism community, tested her designs with real people, and learned the specific tailoring adjustments necessary for shorter torsos, limb proportions, and accessibility.
Design Meets Identity
Jasmine’s designs are unmistakable. She is known for her use of exaggerated sleeves—structured, bold, and beautifully layered—drawn from vintage styles and characters like Whitney from A Different World. Her clothing is eye-catching but always wearable, combining theatricality with function. “I want people to feel like they’re the best thing walking,” she says. “Like they have two commas in their bank account.”
Her attention to detail is matched by her desire to empower. She alters closures for easier movement, modifies waistlines for comfort, and maintains aesthetic integrity without sacrificing accessibility. “No one should have to choose between style and fit,” she explains.
One of her most powerful moments came when she created a structured corset—fit-tested for multiple body types, including adults with dwarfism—and got it right on the first try. “I cried,” she recalls. “That was the moment I knew I could really do this.”
Creating Community, Not Just Clothing
More than just a designer, Jasmine is a cultural educator. Through social media and public appearances, she raises awareness about dwarfism, disability etiquette, and inclusive design. She hosts live discussions, creates video content, and uses her platform to break stereotypes while building bridges.
“I’m not just here to sell you clothes,” she says. “I’m here to help you see people differently.”
Her work is deeply collaborative. She gathers feedback from the community and considers her customers as co-creators. By involving people with lived experience in her process, Jasmine ensures her designs are not only stylish but truly representative.

Looking Ahead
Jasmine’s brand is growing rapidly. She’s expanding into avant-garde fashion, bridal couture, tall sizing, and African-inspired prints that honor her cultural roots. She plans to eventually open a dedicated manufacturing facility where she can produce her designs on her own terms—offering employment opportunities and pushing further into sustainable, inclusive production.
She’s also eyeing opportunities in entertainment—designing for film, stage, and music artists of all body types. “I want to be the go-to designer for those who have never seen themselves represented in fashion,” she says.
Faith at the Center
Faith is Jasmine’s anchor. Every design begins with prayer. Her sketchbook, sewing machine, and studio space are dedicated to divine use. “This is God’s brand,” she says. “I’m just the vessel.”
Despite the challenges—financial, logistical, emotional—Jasmine stays focused. Her discipline is unmatched, and her determination is contagious. “I don’t quit,” she says. “Even when it’s hard, even when it’s scary, I keep going.”

Words for Other Creatives
To young Black women entering fashion or any creative industry, Jasmine offers this advice: “Do it scared. Do it broke. Do it unsure. Do it anyway.”
She is living proof that vision backed by work—and centered in faith—can transform entire systems. Her story is not just about fashion. It’s about purpose, perseverance, and what happens when a woman listens to God and walks fully in her assignment.
“I want people to feel powerful in my clothes,” Jasmine says. “Because when they do, I know I’ve done what I was called to do.”
