Overcoming Challenges in Business

Starting JZG PR was not without its challenges. Like many new business owners, Jahphia faced the temptation to scale too quickly. Despite her wealth of industry knowledge, she realized that running an LLC required mastering additional skills—including logistics, taxation, and client management. Learning to pace herself, set boundaries, and embrace growth at the right speed was crucial in building a sustainable and impactful business.

A Pivotal Moment in Her Journey

A defining moment in Jahphia’s career was her time at iHeartMedia, where she was one of only two Black employees in her market. Witnessing firsthand the disparities in media representation and advertising access, she knew she had a bigger purpose. That experience, along with her education at an HBCU, fueled her desire to help Black businesses gain the same leverage as their mainstream competitors.

Mentorship and Support

Jahphia’s biggest mentor and support system has been her mother, Cecilia. As an only child and surviving daughter, she shares an extraordinary bond with her mother—one that extends into business and creative ventures. Helping her mother publish books and launch an organic hair and skincare brand has strengthened their relationship and deepened Jahphia’s commitment to empowering others to turn their dreams into reality.

Innovation in PR and Branding

One of the most innovative aspects of JZG PR is its strategic use of AI to enhance branding and messaging. While she believes in maintaining a human touch, incorporating AI-powered insights allows her team to refine campaigns, optimize lead generation, and ensure that her clients' brands remain competitive in evolving markets. By blending cutting-edge technology with traditional PR expertise, she provides businesses with the best of both worlds.

The Role of Representation in Business

As a Black woman in business, Japhia understands the significance of representation and community support. Her passion for cultural preservation and economic empowerment is reflected in the clients she serves and the industries she hopes to expand into. One of her long-term goals is to break into sports PR and branding, particularly in industries where Black professionals remain underrepresented—such as golf and hockey. Her goal is to help Black entrepreneurs secure major marketing and influencer deals in these competitive spaces.

Future Goals and Aspirations

Looking ahead, Jahphia envisions JZG PR growing into a nationally recognized firm specializing in high-profile events, festivals, and concerts, while continuing to provide comprehensive branding services for small businesses. She is committed to helping Black entrepreneurs establish a strong media presence, positioning them for long-term success.

Advice for Aspiring Black Women Entrepreneurs

Jahphia’s advice to young Black women entering entrepreneurship is to embrace patience, self-awareness, and continuous learning. She emphasizes the importance of having grace in the face of setbacks, trusting the process, and understanding that true mastery takes time. She encourages future entrepreneurs to stay committed to their craft, refine their skills, and never compromise their integrity for money or exposure.

A Legacy of Empowerment

Through JZG PR, Jahphia Griffin is doing far more than building brands—she is creating a lasting impact by fostering Black business success, visibility, and representation in competitive industries. Her commitment to innovation, cultural pride, and strategic storytelling makes her a powerful force in the world of PR, ensuring that Black entrepreneurs continue to thrive in the spaces where they have long been underrepresented.
